Harry Styles has finally revealed the track that he’s been working on for years, “Sign Of The Times,” to mixed results.
Styles, one fifth of the mega boyband, One Direction, some may say the best singer of the group. We all know he’s been planning a solo career for years, and we all knew it was going to be more rock leaning than the band’s sound, so it’s no surprise that “Times” has 70s influences.
Let’s just start off with the fact that this song is way too long! Nearly six bloody minutes is a long time to sit through a song, especially one that starts off so bland as this and has so little sonic changes.
“Times” is very Bowie, glam-rock, it sounds like it could have come straight out of the mid-70s. The ballad kinda rolls through and only occasionally hits the spot, and that’s on the chorus.
Vocally, Styles sounds really good! I don’t know why I’m so surprised because I already knew he could sing, but I just didn’t know his voice could hit so many notes – that well anyway.
The thing that takes away from this track is simply the length of it, keeping at three minutes would have saved the boring intro and cut off the pointless last 60 seconds.
