TLC – “Way Back” ft. Snoop Dogg | Review

TLC are back with lead single, “Way Back,” from their recently announced final album, out June 30 – oh and Snoop Dogg is here to offer a helping hand.

The group started a Kickstarter campaign back in 2015 to get funds to record their final album and ended up making $430,000 from fans – not too shabby.

T-Boz and Chilli have put that money to good work, “Way Back” sounds just like something you’d expect from TLC, without sounding dated.

The track takes a throwback vibe that namechecks the likes of Marvin Gaye and Prince while talking of an ex-relationship, or if you read into it, talking to the fans after such a long time!

The pair sound like they haven’t been gone, they sound great together and bounce over the production. T-Boz raspy voice has the chance of going either way on tracks…and just like she did back on all the number one singles, she manages to make it work again!

The song definitely feels warm, in the way that it feels familiar, the band’s sound is so iconic that it almost comforts you and takes you back to your childhood.

Now, let me tell you, when I heard that Snoop was featuring, I was worried. A Snoop feature can make or break a song, but I can tell you – SNOOP SOUNDS FANTASTIC.

He’s become a very jokey character of late with his commentaries on animals and snaps at a Kanye gig going viral, but he sounds better than he has done in years here!

If you want to go “Way Back” and feel the vibes you used to get from TLC, listen to this track!

Lisa ‘Left-Eye’ would be proud!
